Childfund NZ – Nepal Earthquake Appeal

Despite having experienced the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 first hand, it is difficult to comprehend the widespread devastation caused by the Nepal earthquake in April 2015.

 

More than 9,000 people were killed and many more were injured. Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless with entire villages flattened.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Assisting Zambian children with disabilities

 

In 2005 Managing Director, Christine Wright headed to East Africa on holiday with her good friend Aisling Renshaw. From 2010-2012 Aisling returned to Africa to work as a physiotherapist in a Zambian hospital assisting children with disabilities.  

 

While in Zambia, Aisling undertook a project to establish better equipment to assist the children with their daily lives. The equipment typically used was made out of paper mache and while it met the basic needs, a lot (such as walking frames) regularly failed.  Aisling worked with a local carpenter to design and build more robust equipment. 

 

After hearing of Aisling’s initiative, Blueberry Consulting jumped on board to assist Aisling and the children by providing a financial contribution to ensure the success of the programme was maximised.
